AI Search Readiness

A practical check of whether Google and AI assistants can find the firm and quote it, followed by a clear plan to fix what they cannot use.

The issue

The problem shows up differently depending on the firm. These are the questions we hear, in the words clients actually use, and the answer we would give in the room.

  1. Legal

We think we are invisible to Google's AI answers. We cannot prove it. Can you?

  2. Accounting and finance

Is this a ranking problem, or is the site just unreadable to the assistants our clients use?

  3. Medical and scientific

If we cannot publish clinical claims, is there anything an assistant would quote?

  4. Travel and hospitality

The booking sites take every search result. Is there a test that tells us whether we exist at all?

The work

A practical check of whether Google and AI assistants can find the firm and quote it, followed by a clear plan to fix what they cannot use.

  • Fetch test on the pages that matter
  • Written report tied to specific URLs
  • Blocked bots, click-only copy, PDF gaps named
  • Sequenced fixes: site, writing, off-site mentions
  • Ten-minute partner summary

We read the firm the way AI assistants and Google read it. We look at the site the way those tools look at it, and we write down what they can actually use. Google can reconstruct a page that AI assistants cannot. A site can rank in Google, appear in Search Console, and still give AI assistants an empty page, because the claims live behind a click, in a PDF, or in a picture of text. Rankings still matter, but they are only one input. The outcome that matters here is whether an assistant can quote a clear sentence about who you are for.

What you receive is a written position: what is readable, what is not, and what to do first. Implementation is not included. If you want us to do the work, we price it from the relevant digital marketing or AI services page, using the findings as the brief rather than starting again. Readiness is a state of the pages. It is not a certificate, a score, or a promise of an AI assistant ranking.

How this looks in your firm

In a law firm, partners suspect they are invisible to Google's AI answers and to AI assistants, and have no internal way to prove it.

In an accountancy, the question is whether this is a ranking problem or a site that assistants cannot read.

In a medical or scientific practice, clinical claims cannot always be published, so the useful finding is whether anything quotable remains.

In travel and hospitality, the booking sites take the search results. The test is whether the operator exists at all in the words an AI assistant reads.

Legal, accounting and medical sites are often built as applications rather than as documents, which is why this check exists as a separate piece of work before a monthly programme. Every finding names the page it was found on.

Where a rebuild is required we say so. Where a smaller change to the page would be enough we say that too. If the pages you think matter are the wrong pages, that is one of the findings. Access notes stay with the report, so a later engagement does not have to rediscover which tools were blocked.

What you get

These are the concrete things the engagement delivers, not only a report and an invoice.

  1. A pass over the pages you care about, looking at them the way AI assistants and Google actually look at them.

  2. A written report naming blocked tools, copy that only appears after a click, unreadable PDFs, missing answers, and gaps on other sites.

  3. The fixes in order: the website first, then the writing, then the mentions on other sites.

  4. A plain English summary a partner can read in ten minutes.

MeasurementHow we will know it is done

The check is complete when the written findings exist and each one can be reproduced from an address on the site.

  1. We do not score the site out of a hundred.

  2. We say whether an AI assistant fetching the page today would have a sentence it could quote about who you are for.

  3. That is a yes, a no, or a not yet, with evidence.

  4. Follow-up work is measured on the service that does it, not on this one.

  5. Access notes sit with the report, so a later engagement does not have to rediscover which tools were blocked.

Who this is not for

If you want a tool demonstration, a score out of ten, or a promise that you will rank in AI assistants, this is not that. We read your website the way the AI tools actually read it and show you exactly what they can and cannot see. We do not sell rankings.

An example of this work

Ranked on page one and invisible to every assistant

Disputes practice, north of England, around 40 partners. Anonymised.

Practice areas loaded on click, the case studies were PDFs, and the team pages were generated in the browser. Google could still read the site. The assistants their clients asked never quoted it.

Questions

Is this a ranking audit?

It includes search, and it is wider than rankings. Google can reconstruct a page that AI assistants cannot. A site can rank in Google and still give AI assistants an empty page, because the claims live behind a click, in a PDF, or in a picture of text. The readiness check looks at the words on the page, the links, the structured data, and the off-site mentions a model would use to decide whether you exist. Rankings are one input. Whether the firm can be quoted is the output.

What do we receive at the end?

A written report that names what an AI assistant can currently quote, what it cannot, and the sequence of work that would change that. Each finding is tied to a page on the site, not to an impression. Where a rebuild is required we say so. Where a smaller change to the page would be enough we say that too. The document is something a partner can read without a briefing. If you want us to do the work afterwards, that is a separate engagement, using the findings as the brief rather than starting again.

How long does it take?

Usually two to four weeks from access to the written findings, depending on the size of the site and whether we can look at it the way AI assistants and Google do. We do not need a long workshop with the partnership to start. We do need honest access to the live site, the analytics you already have, and a list of the pages you think matter. If those pages are the wrong pages, that is one of the findings.
